The inhibitory function of Cystatin-C on papin's protease activity was measured by a colorimetric assay using L-BAPA as substrate. IC50 value was measured at 5-20 ug/ml (0.3-1.5 uM) with a range of 1.56-50ug/ml Cystatin-C in presence of 0.55uM papain and 0.44uM L-BAPA. The activity is typically 0.3-1.5uM IC50.

It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized Cystatin-C in sterile water not less than 100ug/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions.
LyophilizeduCystatin-C although stable at room temperature for 3 weeks, should be stored desiccated below -18oC. Upon reconstitution Cystatin-C should be stored at 4oC between 2-7 days and for future use below -18oC.
For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA).
Avoid multiple freeze-thaw cycles.
